RUSSEL (AFN) - Worldwide steel production grew by 1 percent on an annual basis in January to 146.7 million tons.
The World Steel Association announces this.
China, by far the largest steel country in the world, accounted for 75 million tonnes. That is an increase of 4.3 percent compared to January 2018.
The United States increased production by 11 percent to 7.6 million tons.
In India there was a decrease of 1.9 percent to 9.2 million tons of steel .
Steel production in Turkey shrank by nearly 20 percent to 2.6 million tons.
Less steel was also produced in the European Union than a year earlier.
